Rochester Oratorio Society to Perform Works by Tyzik, Rutter

(Rochester, N.Y. – January 16, 2019) The Rochester Oratorio Society will perform a concert of works by Jeff Tyzik and John Rutter at Hochstein Performance Hall in Rochester on February 8 at 7:30 p.m.

The ensemble, led by Maestro Eric Townell, Artistic Director, continues its 73rd season with Tyzik’s setting of Psalm 150, which was commissioned and premiered by the Oratorio Society under Director Emeritus, Roger Wilhelm. The work was premiered in Europe during the Oratorio Society’s 2014 tour led by Eric Townell.

Tyzik is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and Grammy Award winner, recognized for his brilliant arrangements, original programming and engaging rapport with audiences of all ages. This season, Tyzik will celebrate his 23rd season as Principal Pops Conductor of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Oratorio Society Chorus and Orchestra, along with The Hochstein Youth Singers, The Antara Winds ensemble, and Kevin Nitsch on piano will also perform Rutter’s Mass of the Children. Rutter is an English composer and conductor, associated mainly with choral music and active internationally for many years. Mass of the Children, for soprano and baritone soloists, children’s choir, adult choir, and orchestra or chamber ensemble, is a non-liturgical Missa brevis, with the traditional Latin and Greek Mass text interwoven with several English poems.
